WSI Adds Airport Surface Tracking to Industry-Leading WSI Fusion Flight Operation Platform

SkyWest Airlines Selects WSI Fusion Surface Tracking for Gate-to-Gate Flight Operations

ANDOVER, Mass. (May 7, 2013) – Weather Services International (WSI), today announced the release of airport surface tracking in WSI Fusion, a proactive and comprehensive flight decision support solution that enables flight operators to operate more safely and efficiently. This release adds FAA ASDE-x surface tracking, diversion monitoring, key airport performance indicators, and other optional features to the WSI Fusion platform.

SkyWest Airlines, a leading domestic carrier that operates more than 300 aircraft to destinations throughout North America and partners with the world’s largest network carriers has adopted the WSI solution for airport decision support.

"WSI and SkyWest have a long standing relationship and we look forward to utilizing their newest technology,” said Klen Brooks, SkyWest Airlines vice president of flight operations. As our operations have grown in frequency and complexity, WSI has continued to provide highly responsive service that will help our evolving needs."

Incorporating tools vital for managing decisions around flight movement in the airport environment, WSI Fusion now provides functionality to streamline gate-to-gate decision making including:

• ASDE-X (Airport Surface Detection Equipment, Model X) surface tracking of aircraft and vehicles for major U.S. airports allowing operators to manage extended taxi times and gain traffic flow efficiencies.

• Diversion monitor, which facilitates the ability to manage diversions at airports to ensure prompt recovery of operations to get passengers back on track with minimal disruption to operations and passenger itineraries.

• Airport departure and arrival sector risk outlook, which provides an intuitive visualization translating forecasted weather into airspace impacts.

• Airport departure and arrival fix monitoring, including a quick at-a-glance view of a flight’s initial or final fix associated with an airport, ultimately providing decision makers with key information rapidly when airspace is impacted by convective weather or exceeded capacity.

“WSI continues to extend the industry-leading WSI Fusion and Pilotbrief platforms to provide a gate-to-gate solution to improve safety and efficiency through all phases of operations. This release is the latest in a series of customer-driven and innovative WSI enhancements to streamline workflow and ensure common situational awareness among key flight stakeholders,” says Mark D. Miller, general manager of aviation, WSI.

In addition, the latest Fusion release offers many more weather and flight tracking enhancements of interest to commercial airlines and corporate flight departments alike.
