WSI: Warm and Dry Conditions Likely Eastern Europe

Wetter, Windier Conditions More Likely North and West Late Spring and Early Summer

Andover, MA, 21 April 2014 — WSI (Weather Services International) expects widespread above-normal temperatures across Scandinavia, most of mainland Europe and the Southeast for the May-July period, with slightly below-normal temperatures confined to western France, Iberia, and parts of UK and Ireland.

According to WSI Meteorologist Dr. Todd Crawford: “April has been another very mild month across most of Europe, as the upstream pattern over the Atlantic has not been conducive for the sustained delivery of colder air to the continent for many months now. As we look ahead into late spring and early summer, the dynamical weather models continue to suggest that this pattern will persist. However, many of our internal statistical models show a cooler, wetter outcome for the late spring and summer across much of the mainland. For now, we are cautiously persisting the recent pattern while monitoring the cooler risks going forward. We expect that wet/windy/cloudy will be more favored across the north and west and that drier/calmer/sunnier weather will be the rule across eastern locations. Finally, the impending El Nino event will likely not have a significant impact on Europe for the upcoming summer, although we will monitor the potential impacts later in the year.”
