Warm Summer Weather Still Expected Across Northern/Eastern Europe Later in Summer

Recent Pattern Change to Much Cooler Temperatures across Eastern Europe Seen as Temporary

Andover, MA, 23 June 2014 — WSI (Weather Services International) expects widespread above-normal temperatures across Scandinavia, most of northern mainland Europe and the UK for the July-September period, with below-normal temperatures confined to Iberia and southern mainland Europe.

According to WSI Meteorologist Dr. Todd Crawford: “The first half of June went according to plan, with high pressure, sunny skies, and relatively light winds dominating across the north and cooler, wetter, and windier conditions across the south. However, last week a significant pattern change took place that has resulted in widespread below-normal temperatures across Scandinavia and eastern Europe. If this pattern persists well into the summer, our current forecast may be in a bit of trouble. For now, we have made some alterations to the July forecast to reflect this recent pattern change, but still expect the pattern observed in early June to return and be the dominant pattern for the majority of the rest of the summer.”

In July, WSI forecasts:
Nordic Region – Warmer than normal
UK – Warmer than normal
Northern Mainland – Warmer than normal
Southern Mainland – Cooler than normal

In August, WSI forecasts:
Nordic Region – Warmer than normal
UK – Warmer than normal
Northern Mainland – Warmer than normal
Southern Mainland – Cooler than normal

In September, WSI forecasts:
Nordic Region – Warmer than normal
UK – Warmer than normal
Northern Mainland – Warmer than normal
Southern Mainland – Cooler than normal
