WSI and Weather Central Launch New Version of Max Traffic, Premiering in Los Angeles

New interactivity and revenue friendly business model helps local TV stations build strong traffic franchise

Andover Mass. (April 8, 2013) – Weather Services International (WSI) and Weather Central, the leading providers of superior weather data and graphics systems for U.S. broadcast and cable networks, today announced a new version of Max Traffic. As an important part of the Max EcoSystem, Max Traffic puts local television stations back in control of their traffic franchise, enabling them to grow cross-platform audience engagement and drive revenue growth.

The new Max Traffic release combines proprietary technology from both WSI and Weather Central, adding dozens of new features and exclusive interactivity with Max Studio. KNBC in Los Angeles, the largest traffic market in the U.S., will be one of the first stations to premiere the new Max Traffic.

Broadcasters can learn more about Max Traffic, by coming to the WSI booth #SL1710, South Hall Lower, at the 2013 NAB Show, Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas, April 8-11.

WSI Max Traffic is the first and only integrated weather and traffic data solution on the market today. Featuring the most robust social media integration, street-level high resolution mapping with seamless 2D to 3D imagery, live camera integration, interactive drive times, compatibility with touchscreen solutions, and creative sponsorship opportunities.

Max Traffic’s seamless integration with the Max EcoSystem allows broadcasters to easily and frequently engage their audience on all screens, driving additional revenue and producing traffic content with a consistent look and feel to broadcasters’ weather and news segments.

“As budgets tighten, stations are looking for ways to make a big impact on the bottom line and Max Traffic can go a long way in helping do that” said Bill Dow, vice president and general manager of WSI’s media division. “By presenting traffic and weather on the one cohesive platform of the Max EcoSystem, stations can improve their ROI by eliminating separate traffic and weather systems, enhance their audience engagement on all screens, and take back the inventory they have bartered for so many years.”

How It Works
As traffic and weather are typically presented in sequential on-air segments, and as weather is often a driving factor in traffic problems, Max Traffic offers a unified, professionally designed interface with the same high-end look for traffic that WSI’s Max EcoSystem now offers for weather. Partnering with Inrix, the world’s largest traffic network, Max Traffic offers combined weather and traffic presentations that can, for example, provide reports with: (1) traffic flows and radar depicting heaviest areas of precipitation (rain or snow); (2) traffic and satellite imagery identifying areas that could present visual solar glare obstacles or fog; and (3) the future state of traffic due to weather in a given geographic area using WSI’s exclusive and highly accurate RPM (Rapid Precision Mesoscale) forecast modeling tool.

Featuring the same polished look for traffic as WSI’s Max system provides for weather, Max Traffic requires no pre-rendering. It provides a true 3-D environment with advanced special effects and offers the industry’s highest resolution for earth mapping and city models.
